Barbara E. Short, 84, of Lafayette, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at The Springs. She was born November 4, 1936, in Fountain County to the late Carl and Leota (Fix) Johnson.
Barbara graduated from Pine Village High School in 1954 and on June 10, 1955, she married James L. Short in Pine Village and he preceded her in death on March 24, 2011.
Barbara worked in houskeeping at Home Hospital for 20 years and retired in 2001. She had previouly worked for the Journal and Courier delivering bulk newpapers to the area paper carriers.
She was a member of the Illiana Antique Power Association, John Purdue Club and a Charter member of Brady Lane Church of Christ.
Barbara was a avid Purdue Fan and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, refinishing furniture, upolstry and playing in her Euchre Club.
Surviving are her sons Kenneth L. (Kimberly) Short of West Lafayette, Keith A. (Jill) Short of Lafayette. Barbara especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren Jason (Jennifer) Short, Radley Short, Courtney (Kyle) McNeely, Ashlyn and Alanna Short, great grandchildren Haley, Matthew, Rachel Short.
Also surviving is her sister Beatrice E. (Robert) Sturgeon of Oxford. Barbara was preceded in death by her brothers Cecil, Dean and Andy Johnson.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel, 1184 Sagamore Parkway West. Service will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel. Livestream of the service will be on Barbara’s obituary page at www.soller-baker.com. Interment will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or the John Purdue Club in Barbara’s memory.
