Auna K. McGaughey, 31, of Lafayette, entered her eternal resting home on Sunday, October 25, 2026, after experiencing a medical emergency while returning from a trip to Europe.
She was born on December 20, 1994, in Lafayette, IN, to David and Anita (Fowler) McGaughey of Lafayette.
Auna graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School in 2013 and Purdue University in 2017 with a degree in Hotel Tourism Management specializing in Event Planning. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
Auna was a Travel Coordinator with AHI Travel Service for 4 years working in Chicago and Lafayette. She had also spent 2 years as a Flight Attendant with Go Jet Airlines. Prior to those work experiences, she joyfully spent a year living and working in Melbourne, Australia.
Auna loved the world of travel and never missed an opportunity to embark on a trip. She was passionate for animals and could not pass by a lost stray without rescuing it until a home was found. Auna was a volunteer at the LTHC Homeless Shelter, Senior Center of Tippecanoe County and Natalie’s Second Chance Dog Shelter. She was a talented artist and was a passionate reader and writer. She was greatly known for her handwritten homemade cards and pictures. She also loved to leave behind a trail and/or mess of “Auna Belongings” wherever she landed that particular day.
Surviving along with her parents are her sisters Amy (Bryan) Mier of Westfield, IN, Angela (Nicholas) Brewer of Cicero, IN, Grandmother Carolyn Fowler, nieces and nephew Hallie, Finley, Remington, and Grace. She enjoyed spending time with very special cousins, many dear friends, and her beloved dog Benji plus recently adopted kittens Leo and Claire.
Auna was preceded in death by her sister Amber and grandparents Claude Fowler, Morris and Jacque McGaughey.
Auna lived her life as a missionary to anyone who needed a friend, an encouraging word, a helping hand, a small but meaningful gift or just a laugh and a smile. Auna knew no strangers, quickly meeting and boldly becoming friends with anyone who crossed her path. Her heart for others was made of pure gold.
