Anita H. Hines, 86 of Lafayette joined her husband in death on Tuesday, December 26th, 2023, at Milner Community Health Care in Rossville.
Born August 21st, 1937 in Frankfort Indiana to the late Harlan and Lilas (Parke) Emmons, Anita was deeply loved by her family, friends, and colleagues. After graduating Jefferson High School, Anita worked as a secretary at National Homes. Upon her marriage to Alton, Anita was a caretaker for the pair’s combined five children until joining Farm Bureau Insurance, again as a secretary. When the Farm Bureau office was closed, Anita moved to work at St. Elizabeth hospital until she retired. After retirement Anita was a loving caretaker for both her own grandchildren and great-grandchildren and those of family friends. Additionally, Anita tirelessly served her friends and the elderly in her church community through assistantship, companionship, and transportation well until she needed her own assistance.
Anita was an active member of Linnwood Church of Christ for more than 45 years where she served regularly as a Bible Study leader and as a teacher for youth classes and programs. Subsequently she was a member at Brady Lane Church of Christ. Anita enjoyed arts and crafts, television and movies, games, reading, traveling, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Anita was preceded in death by husband Alton C. Hines and sister Barbara Mitchell, both of Lafayette. Surviving are daughter Judi (Donn) Stanfield of Lafayette, son Alan (Jill) Hines of Lafayette, stepson Robert “Hank” (Lori) Hines of Lafayette, stepson Alton “Dean” Hines of Kentland, and stepdaughter Kathy Voyak of Anderson, South Carolina. Also surviving are grandsons Jason (Christina) Stanfield, Jonathon (Laura) Stanfield, Jordan Funk, and Matthew Hines, all of Lafayette, and granddaughters Hailey (Hines) Jahn of Grand Rapids, Michigan and Emma Hines of Lafayette, 12 additional grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and brothers Lyle (Karen) Emmons of Deland, Florida and Jim (Janice) Emmons of West Lafayette.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, January 3rd, 2024 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd in Lafayette. The funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 4th, also at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel with Jeff Keller officiating. Interment will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette.
Memorial contributions may be made in Anita’s name to Brady Lane Church of Christ.
