Alpha Frances Bowman, 85, of Lafayette, died at 11:37 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at St. Mary Health Care.
She was born May 24, 1925, in Crawford County, to the late Knofel and Lettie Rawlings Walk. She graduated from Milltown High School in Crawford County.
On Nov. 26, 1942, she married Wayne J. Bowman. He died Sept. 17, 1996.
Mrs. Bowman worked at Kmart for more than 30 years. She was a member of Crestview United Brethren Church, Oldies But Goodies bowling league at Star Lanes and Pearl of Life bowling league at Arrow Head. She enjoyed walking at the mall.
Surviving are a daughter, Brenda S. Watts (husband: Walter) of Lafayette; two sisters, Lena Thompson of Sellersburg and Betty Plaiss of New Albany; and three brothers, Frank Walk (wife: Marge) of Deputy, Gary Walk (wife: Joanne) of Sun Lake, Ariz., and Steve Walk of New Albany.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Lisa Kyger (husband: Greg), Trina Smith (husband: Terry), Jeffrey Stockton (wife: Mindy), Mark A. Watts (wife: Michelle), Mathew Cripe (companion: Evelyn) and Nicole Cripe; 13 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; sons-in-law, Ronald Stockton and Mark Walker; and brothers-in-law, Harry Bowman (wife: Sara) of Lafayette and Lee Abell of Louisville. Preceded in death by a sister, Helen Abell; daughters, Mary Alice Stockton, Nancy Jo Walker, Rita Jane Bowman; 2 grandsons, Ronnie W. Stockton, Anthony W. Watts.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2011, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, with service there at 10 a.m. Saturday, Pastor Dan Young officiating. Interment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. So sorry to hear of your loss. I work with Frances at KMart for 13 years.
She was one that taught me how to do some receiving before it became all
computerized. One person that I will never forget in all the people that I met
