Sandra K. Peterson, of Lafayette, IN put her hand in the hand of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and was led to her mansion in Paradise on January 23, 2022.
She was born in Lansing, MI on December 19, 1942, and born again of the Spirit on December 19, 1974. The only daughter of James and Marjorie Leasure. Though named Sandra, she was called “Susie” by her six brothers, parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. To the rest of the world, she was “Sandy.”
Sandy graduated from Sandwich High School, Sandwich, Il. She was employed by General Telephone for several years before she joined the ranks at Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Aurora, Il. She went on to marry the love of her life, Jerry Peterson on April 4th, 1964. Sandy left Caterpillar when the little crawlers started coming.
She was a stay-at-home mom to Mike, Jim, and Krista. With this came the years of Cub Scouts, baseball games, school, church activities, and, most important of all–her famous chocolate chip cookies—always hot and fresh when her kids got home from school.
Upon retirement from Caterpillar, Jerry took Sandy to live on beautiful St. Simons Island, GA. There, they were members of St. Simons Island Methodist Church. Sandy was asked to be the librarian, where she and her dear friend, Barbara filled the shelves with over 1500 books and Bibles.
Sandy enjoyed making one-of-a-kind cards that she filled with prayer, love, and humor. She received a double blessing in the quiet hours of the night, for as she blessed others, she was blessed with freedom from her own pain and suffering.
Since the day in 1974 that she first met Jesus Christ face to face and heart to heart, Sandy filled her years with Bible Studies, volunteer projects and spending many hours investing her life in people. God gave her a heart to love and mentor others in the name of Jesus.
Sandy is survived by her beloved husband, Jerry, and Children Mike (Janna),
Jim (Stella), and Krista (Kevin Henson.) Many joyful playtimes were spent with her grandchildren, Andy Peterson (Larissa), Holly Cross (Adam), Phillip Peterson (Emily Cooper), and Caleb Henson. She also had the joy of holding her first great grandchild, Keaton Cross. Sandy had a special place in her heart and in her life for the Pohl family of Georgia. She was “Granny” to: Elizabeth, Elijah, Lindsey Alice, Bethany, Mercy, Andrew, Ellianna, and Adelena Joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Jon Leasure, Sandy leaves behind her 5 other brothers, Jim (Karen, deceased), Tom (Helen), Richard (Beverly), Gordon (Robin) and Kenny (Lana.)
