Rex D. Herbert Sr, 69, of Lafayette, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at his residence.

He was born July 31, 1954, in Muncie, IN, to the late John and Wanda (York) Herbert.

Rex graduated from South Side High School in Muncie and attended Purdue University.

On October 8, 1977, he married Nancy Mills in Muncie, and she survives.

Rex retired from the US Postal service after several years and then went on to purchase a Subway franchise and ran it at Tippecanoe Mall from 2004 until retiring a second time in 2018.

Rex loved spending time with his grandchildren, watching scary movies and any cup of coffee.

Surviving with Nancy M. Herbert of Lafayette, IN, are two sons, DeWayne (Lindsay) Herbert of Carmel, IN and Ryan (Lindsey) Herbert of Lafayette, IN, four sisters, Cheryl (Terry) Rhum of New Port Richey, FL, Jill (Gary) Imhoff of MN, Kim (Charlie) Cecil of Parker City, IN and Cheryl Reed of Muncie, IN, two brothers, Rick Herbert and Brad (Rene) Herbert both of Muncie, IN. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Raegan Herbert, Tenley Herbert, Siena Crawley, Lane Herbert, Cade Herbert and Ellie Herbert.

Rex was preceded in death by two brothers, Jeff and Johnnie Herbert.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham

Blvd. Lafayette, IN 47909

A private family Interment will be held at Gardens of Memory of Muncie, IN.

We are so sorry here of this loss. I remember him as the accountable clerk at the post office and he was always our favorite! Later although sad to see him retire from the post office he then afforded both our boys jobs at Subway and was so so good to them.
