Michael E. Summers, 81, passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021, at IU Health Arnett Hospital.
He was born February 18, 1940, in Lafayette, to the late Gale and Florence (Richard) Summers. Michael was in the Jefferson High School class of 1958 and proudly served in the Marine Corps. On September 10, 1965, he married Sharon Farney in Monticello, Indiana and she survives.
After graduating from high school Michael went to work for his father’s plumbing business before buying the business in 1976. He started a local plumbing association for plumbers in Lafayette as well as the surrounding area. He and his wife ran Summers and Summers Plumbing until retirement.
He was a member of the Eagles Lodge #347 and American Legion Post #11.
Through the years he played on many softball leagues as well as bowling leagues. His love of bowling is what led him to become one of the original owners of Arrowhead Bowl and was later inducted into the Lafayette Bowling Hall of Fame. He got a lot of joy from spending time with the bowling community.
Michael was a loving and very proud man, who was an incredible role model to all. He was a man who led by example. He loved spending time with his family and dear friends. He was also an avid Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan.
Surviving with his wife, Sharon are children, Gail Summers of Lafayette, Scott (Rhonda) Summers of Romney, Missy (Mike) Oakley of Lafayette and Mindy (Donny) Huffines of Lafayette. Also surviving are a brother, Denny Summers of Lafayette and a sister, Jackie Herlin of Monee, IL. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren: Cody Summers, Alissa Klinker, Courtney Oakley, Cassie Shives, Austin Oakley, Collin Huffines, Kallie Douglas, Caitlin Huffines, Heath Oakley, Colton Huffines.
Also surviving are five great granddaughters: Brooklyn & Brynlee Summers, Kamryn Klinker, Raelynn & Paisley Shives and a great grandson to arrive any day.
Michael was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and Bill Summers.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at Soller‐ Baker Funeral Home, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Lafayette.
Funeral services will be at held at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 28, 2021, at Soller‐ Baker Funeral Home, with
Dick Culbertson officiating. Entombment will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in Michael’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association or Arrowhead Bowl Youth Bowling Program.
