Lewis Rueda, 20, of Delphi, Indiana, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2026, at Ascension St.
Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born on November 15, 2005, in Lafayette, Indiana, to Luis Rueda and Cristina Salazar. Lewis graduated from Rossville High School and was attending Ivy Tech Community College, with hopes of transferring to pursue his dream of becoming a future Boilermaker.
Lewis was loving, caring, and joyful – always huggable and kind (cariñoso). Friendly and adventurous, he was intelligent and fearless, with a beautiful smile that could light up any room.
He was a devoted member of the Catholic Church and lived his faith with humility and compassion. He was respectful (respetuoso), friendly (amigable), well-spoken, good-hearted, humble, and truly an amazing human being. Lewis was his mom’s best friend and a loving brother. He loved sports and was an incredible skier and snowboarder. He enjoyed basketball and played soccer at Blue Chip and Legacy.
Music was also a big part of Lewis’s life. He loved R&B; rap, and everything in between. He kept his Spanish roots alive through music and culture, embracing his heritage with pride. Lewis loved playing the piano and found joy and peace in expressing himself through every note he played. Lewis was resilient, selfless, and patient. He always had hope and never gave up.
He had a beautiful soul and will forever be remembered for the joy, strength, and light he brought to everyone around him.

He is survived by his parents, Cristina Salazar of Delphi, IN, and Luis O.
Rueda of Lafayette, IN; his siblings, Wendy Rueda of Van Nuys, CA, Bryan Rueda of Van Nuys, CA, Hugo Rueda of Lafayette, IN, Rosse Rueda of Lafayette, IN, Hector Salazar of Lafayette, IN, Alexander Ruiz of Delphi, IN, and Cristali F. Ruiz of Delphi, IN; and his beloved grandparents and extended family.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel. Interment will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery in Lafayette, IN.
