Lawrence Alvin Krug, Born December 28th, 1931, in Watseka, Illinois passed away peacefully at his home in Battle Ground on March 1st, 2026. Preceded in death by his parents George & Loretta Krug, siblings Laverne & Joseph Krug, wife Virginia Krug, and granddaughter Rachel Payne.
A very talented basketball player during his youth, his specialty was the three-pointer. Shortly after graduating high school, he went on to serve in the Korean War (1952-1954) where he earned his Combat Infantry Badge, US Service Medal, and Koren War Service Medal. After returning from the war he met and married Virginia Lovell Parris, August 2, 1958, in Fowler, Indiana.
Lawrence and Virginia had three daughters, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Denise (Rich) Kerns and children Dmitri & Alex, Michelle (Clark) Leffert and children Nicki & Emily (Thomas) Gillam and their children Grayson, Gwen and Gemma. Renee (Devon) Miller and children Ethan (Tayler) Miller and their children Carter & Cohan, Austin (Lindsay) Miller and their children Calhan & Ivy.
Lawrence was an avid cattle and equine trader. His deep love for animals led him to raise cattle, horses, and sheep for several decades, including Belgian Draft horses, his favorite breed. He was also an unwavering IU basketball fan (despite all the Purdue graduates in the family).
Lawrence is remembered as active and full of life. After retiring from his position at Purdue University, he couldn’t sit still. You could usually find Lawrence helping one of his daughters or grandchildren with cattle, farming, construction, baking dog treats, and just about everything in between. He always made time for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There was rarely a time you couldn’t find Lawrence at a basketball, baseball, tennis, swimming or wrestling meet watching one of them compete.
Lawrence will be greatly missed by his family. His passing will create a void that can never be truly filled. His life, legacy, and memories will be carried on by his loved ones.
