Larry Lee Simons, 76, of Lafayette, passed away unexpectedly, October 12, 2022, at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.
He was born February 4, 1946, in Rensselaer to the late Jacob and Marjorie (Criswell) Simons. He was a graduate of Rensselaer High School and a United States Navy veteran serving honorably from November 1965 to October 1969. On April 27, 1969, he married his best friend and love of his life Linda K. Hartley in Watseka, IL, and she survives. Larry served the Lafayette community for 13 years as a City Bus driver.
Larry liked to work with his hands and putter around his garage. He enjoyed working on cars and was his daughters’ hero for working on her “old jalopies” when they would break down. He loved his daily Menards trips, collecting farm toys and coins, and being a jokester and giving his family a “hard time”. The most important thing in his life was his family and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Along with his wife, Linda, Larry is survived by his 2 children, Carrie (Randy Shepard) Simons of Watseka and Eric (Amber) Simons of Lafayette; 3 grandchildren, Emma Simons, Addison Simons, and Jackson Simons; a brother, James William “Bill” Simons of West Lafayette; a sister, Joyce (Robert) Cunningham of Lafayette; and many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Marjorie Simons; and his younger brother, Gary Simons.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until time of military honors at 5:45 pm.
A funeral service will follow military honors at 6:00 pm, Friday, October 21, 2022, at Soller-Baker, Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN 47909, with Pastor Jeff Keller of Brady Lane Church officiating.
An inurnment will be held at a future date at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette.
