Jenny Lou Hampsch passed away at St. Franciscan Hospital in Lafayette, IN on Monday, January 26, 2026, at the age of 72. Jenny was born on March 13,1953 to the late Iva Douglas and Marianna (Mangus) Thomas in Warsaw, Indiana. She was the youngest of four children. Jenny’s sister, Patti Thomas, survives her. She is preceded in death by brothers Dennis Thomas and Gene Thomas.
Jenny attended Mulberry Elementary School, Clinton Prairie Jr & Sr High School graduating in 1971. She received her diploma from Indiana Business College in the field of Stenography in 1972.
Jenny married Joseph Zebrowski on June 25,1975. She joined Joe on his travels, assisting with both packing and driving the 18-wheeler moving truck he managed. Together they conceived Trina Zebrowski shortly before Joe passed away. She raised Trina as a single mother and worked various secretarial and clerical positions around Lafayette, IN area.
On June 20, 1981, Jenny married William Trapnell. Together they had son, Gregory William, who passed away shortly after birth. Jenny and Bill had a daughter, Samantha Trapnell. After living in Florida for several years, they eventually returned to Lafayette. Jenny and Bill divorced in 1992.
In 1989 Jenny started as a secretary at Bioanalytical Systems Inc. (inotiv Inc.) and held various roles with increasing responsibility in the company over the next 24 years culminating in the position of Director of Export Services.
Jenny married James Hampsch on November 5,1994 who she met at Bioanalytical Systems. They were best friends, deeply in love with each other, and enjoyed 31 wonderful years together.
Jenny retired in 2013. She volunteered at Franciscan Hospital accumulating over one thousand hours of volunteer work with recognition for outstanding service. She enjoyed sewing and crafting and selling at craft shows and Christmas sales at local schools. She was an avid player of word games online and accumulated hundreds of thousands of gold coins which her family is still trying to locate. Jenny enjoyed remodeling bathrooms and bedrooms in her own unique and eclectic style.
In retirement she took to wearing multicolored bright comfortable clothing and enjoyed the role of spunky old lady and cool grandma. As matriarch of the family, she ruled with love and generosity but with a firm hand. Despite Jenny’s petite 4-foot-9-inch stature she inspired respect from the largest and bravest members of the family.
Jenny leaves behind her, her husband, James Hampsch; her daughters, Trina Cullum (Zebrowski) and Samantha Trapnell; her grandsons, Dilyn Cullum and Jameson Lane; her granddaughter, Becka Trapnell; and her sisters-in-law, Susan Thomas and Pamela Thomas. She is preceded in death by grandson Dominik Cullum.
