Zachary Joshua Crays, 13, of Lafayette, died at 10:55 a.m. Sunday, July 25, 2010, in the emergency room at White County Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 19, 1996, in Lafayette, he was the son of John W. and Laura Megan McGow Crays of Lafayette, who survive.
He was a student entering into his eighth grade year at Tecumseh Middle School. He attended Faith Baptist Church and was a member of Wildlife Youth Group. He enjoyed baseball, fishing, golf, basketball and hunting.
Surviving with his parents are two sisters, Ashley Crays and Jamie Crays, both of Lafayette; and a brother, Nathan Crays of Palmyra, Ill.
Also surviving are his grandparents, Pat and Mary McGow of Plymouth, Mich., and Dave and Wanda Link of Carlinville, Ill.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John William Crays Sr.; and great-grandparents, John and Stella Groves, Harold “Slim” and Opal Crays, Freab and Pearl Wise.

Visitation from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. (CDT) Friday, July 30, 2010, at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home, 260 Woodlawn Acres, Carlinville, IL 62626-0379. Zach, Brad, and i were best friends we hung together had the same classes ever since 4rth grade. But then we kinda drifted away so yea! But then in 6th grade and 7th we started hanging back out i hadnt seen them in a while so i was so excited, that day i realized nothing could change our friendship. in 7th grade we didnt really hang out but i was glad that we were still friends, we had so many great times we always laugh together we had fun everything friends do. i had only talked to Brad 7th grade year i had never talked to Zach i didnt think he was mad at me but we werent on teams. So i was just like i will talk to him in 8th grade. so that day i was at church and i had no intinchen of anything like this happening, so Wed. came and at 11:17 i found out that my best friend that i hanged with almost every day 4rth-7th grade died. I cried so hard, it was just too much i have so many questions about it, but nothing no one could answer i was just heart broken.

IM VERY SORRY I WONT BE ABLE TO MAKE THE FUNERAL BUT I HOPE YOU GUYS HAVE A BLESSED LIFE AND MEMORYS TO ZACH CRAYZ

My heart is broken. I am praying for you every minute. Please find peace that he was loved. He is now an Angel guarding over you and your family.

Although we have never met, you and your family have been in my prayers.

17 years ago I lost my son 4 year old son Justin. Every day I pray that no other mother or father suffer the loss of their child.

I want to say that Zac was a good friend and I will miss him very much. He was one that I could talk to and he would listen to me and never make fun of me. I know that he is in Heaven, but I will miss him so much this year. I wish you and your family all the comfort and support that there is and remember that when you feel that you can not go on, Jesus is there to carry you. You will never be alone, Zac is now an angel and is still a good friend to me.

Zachary and Brody were good friends from the beginning of their schooling and athletics and they had many good memories together. Brody has prayed each night for understanding and decided he is ""stepping up"" his game in honor of Zachary...to be the best player possible because Zachary would want it that way. May God give you peace at this most difficult time.

I am so sorry for your family. My prayers and thoughts go with you at this time. Zac was a wonderful young man. He was respectful to his classmates and teachers. I will always remember his smile. I am sorry I can&t personally pay my respects, but I am on vacation.

Laura and John , I cannot begin to tell you how sorry and sad I am. Zach was a wonderful kid and I loved having him on my all-star team that first year. He was such a beautiful boy and you wonderful parents. I do not know what to say other than if you need anything, please contact me. I have recently moved to La Crosse, Wisconsin and wish I could be there for you.

Dear Crays Family,

My son attended Tecumseh with Zachary. Our family was deeply saddened upon hearing the news he had passed away. We wanted to say how sorry we are and we will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.
