William R. Toland, 82, of Lafayette, died Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, in Lafayette.
He was born Feb. 15, 1929, in Littleton, Ill., and was son of the late Forest and Anna Matheney Toland.
He was married on April 3, 1951, to Jane Bird, in Lafayette, and she survives.
Mr. Toland was a carpenter with the local Carpenters Union for many years and had worked for WH Long for the past eight years.
A veteran of the Air Force, he was a member of American Legion Post 777, Indianapolis, and enjoyed fishing and camping.
Surviving with his wife are daughters, Patti J. VanDevender (husband: Alan) of Altamonte Springs, Fla., Mary A. Willey (husband: Tom) of Lafayette; a son, Bill R. Toland (wife: Bobbie) of West Lafayette; and a sister, Frances Ross of Rushville, Ill.
Also surviving 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandsons.
Visitation will be 1 hour prior to a 11 a.m. service on Thursday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., the Rev. Dr. Clayton Kendall officiating. Interment will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Preceded in death by a brother, Glade Toland. Those wishing may contribute to the American Heart Association.
