William ‘Mark’ McNary, 65, of Lafayette went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 12, 2020 peacefully in his home. During his 13-year battle with cancer, he never gave up, never asked why him and always kept his strong faith. He was born August 24, 1955 in Peoria, IL to the late William and surviving Madge McNary.
Mark started his career with Caterpillar in 1973 as a machine operator. He began a four-year Machinist Apprenticeship in August of 1974, with graduation in 1978. Upon graduation he was a Tool Designer in East Peoria. He transferred to Lafayette’s Large Engine Center in 1983. His career in Lafayette included tool design, supervisor roles in production and purchasing, black belt in engineering and finishing his 41.5 years at Caterpillar as an Engineering Supervisor 2.
Mark was a member of Wea Ridge Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, led men’s helping hands, business meeting mediator, head of personnel and head of building/grounds. One of his favorite joys was leading, organizing and delivering the Annual Community Thanksgiving meal. Mark’s leadership and love for his church family will be missed by all.
Mark enjoyed spending time with his family and grandkids. He loved fishing and watching the excitement in the eyes of his grandkids when they would hook and land a fish, riding rollercoasters from park open to close, watching his grandson play baseball, swimming and squirt gun fights in the pool, travelling with his family as well as close friends. He was well known and loved for his pancakes and cuddle bugs. In his younger years he enjoyed playing men’s slow pitch softball, travelling to tournaments where you could find him in the outfield. He coached his daughters in softball when they were young. His favorite words of wisdom were to always say “yes dear”.
Mark was a remarkable man who led by example and gave himself selflessly to others. He was always a voice of reason for his family and others when they were seeking advice.
He is survived by his loving wife Tammy McNary of 40 years, daughters Amy (Ryan) Meyer, Alycea (Daniel) Longoria and four grandchildren who he adored: Hudson & Olivia Meyer, Layla & Lorenzo Longoria of Lafayette.
