William J. Meluch, 36, passed away in his home, from cancer on Tuesday, December 25, 2018.
William was born May 16, 1982 in Lafayette to John P. and Paula J. (Leuck) Meluch of West Lafayette.
He attended St. Lawrence Elementary and Central Catholic Jr/Sr High School, graduating in 2000. He received his associate degree from Ivy Tech and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Indiana State University in 2017.
Bill worked as a dishwasher at the Downtowner, a baker and manager at Pizza Hut, and a recreational soccer referee.
Officer Meluch was proud to serve on the Lafayette Police Department, being sworn to serve on October 19, 2007. He was a member of the department Honor Guard.
Bill was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, was a board member and past treasurer of F.O.P. Arman Lodge #49. He was a Chicago Cubs fan and loved to fly. He was just a few hours short of obtaining his private pilot’s license.
Surviving along with his parents, John and Paula are two brothers, Andrew Meluch (wife Chelsey) of Cloverdale and Joseph Meluch (wife Meghan Doyle) of Ogden Dunes. Also surviving are a nephew, Jude and two nieces, Mabel and Molly.
Friends may call from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Lafayette with a Rosary service starting at 1:45 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:30 am Monday, December 31 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Father Eric Underwood officiating. Burial will follow at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.
Bill and his family are profoundly touched by the love and support of LPD.
