William J. (Bill) Glavash, 64, of Lafayette, Indiana, passed away January 1, 2013, at 6:45 a.m. at the IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. He was born October 19, 1948, in Peoria, Illinois, to the late Boris J. and Elizabeth Marx Glavash. Bill married Wanda Oberlander in Lafayette on May 28, 1988, and she survives. Bill graduated from Richwoods High School in Peoria, and attended the University of Illinois for two years. He worked at Caterpillar from 1974 to 1987 as a member of the management team that opened the Cat plant in Lafayette. In 1987, he became employed at Kirby Risk Electrical Supply as a purchasing manager and director of purchasing and materials management. He served in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1974 and was an electronic technician on nuclear powered fast attack submarines . Bill loved golfing, and was particularly proud to be an Eagle Scout. Surviving along with his wife, are a son, Christopher ( Kendall) of Indianapolis; daughter, Emily Glavash of Lafayette; three stepchildren: Kevin Hysong ( Amy) of Frankfort; Michael Hysong, Lafayette; Jamie Sliger ( Brian) of Lafayette. Grandchildren surviving are Sam Glavash of Indianapolis; Alex, Morgan, and Lauren Sliger of Lafayette. Brothers Keith Glavash ( Marylene) of Boston, Massachusetts; Dave Glavash ( Becky) of Peoria, Illinois. Also several nieces and nephews. Everyone who knew Bill loved him. He touched the lives of all who came in contact with him. His generosity, wit and love of people is his legacy.
