Ms. Bernie Freeman left a message on April 26, 2010:
Dear Ruth,
Brad called the UI Foundation this morning and I was so sorry to learn that our wonderful Bill passed away yesterday. Please know that all of us at the Foundation and at the University of Illinois who had the privilege of knowing and interacting with Bill send you and your family our heartfelt prayers and well wishes as you go through this time of transition.

Over the years, every single time I saw Bill, he greeted me with an exuberant handshake and a great, big smile. How could anyone not respond positively to that kind of person!

Bill&s enthusiasm and energy will forever set the barometer by which all of our volunteers will be evaluated. His passion for people and commitment to get things done are traits that, we are confident, served as an example to those around him.

With deep regrets, I will not be able to be in West Lafayette for the visitation and memorial service tomorrow evening. I want you to know, however, that Bill had a tremendous impact on the way in which I work with groups of volunteers. He was a great role model, a loyal Illini, and a wonderful person.

With sincere sympathy,

Ms. Bernie Freeman
