William I. Pape

William I. Pape, 84, of West Lafayette, died at 6:30 a.m. Sunday, April 25, 2010, at Westminster Health Care.
Born Aug. 30, 1925, in Kirkwood, Ill., he was the son of the late Earl and Jessie Cardiff Pape. He graduated from the University of Illinois and was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, Sachem men?s actvity honorary and president of the class of 1949. He was a member of the President&s Council and the University of Illinois Foundation and was a life member of the University of Illinois Alumni Council.
On Sept. 19, 1976, he married Ruth Beasley Cosler in Champagne, Ill., and she survives.
Mr. Pape had 50 years of continuous service with Northwestern Mutual Life. He was appointed agent in Moline, Ill., in July 1951. He was a specialist at the home office in Milwaukee from February 1955 to June 1958. In Cedar Rapids, Iowa, an asssitant to the general agent until his appointment as district agent in Lafayette in 1961. After retiring as district agent, he became a senior agent on Sept 1, 1990. He became a registered reprsentative for Robert W. Baird & Co. in 1992 and retired in 2001.
He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, where he was former deacon and elder, a member and past president of the Lafayette Chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals and a Golden Key member, a member of the Lafayette Rotary Club since 1973, serving three years on the board, was a Paul Harris fellow and receive the Golden Service Award. He was a honorary member of Lafayette Association of Insurance and Finandcial Advisors and received the National Quality Award for 25 years in 1987.
Mr. Pape also was a member of the John Purdue Club for 25 years, was past president of the Lafayette Symphony board of directors and the Moline Jaycees.
He was a graduate and past director of the Dale Carnegie Course and was emcee of several preliminary Miss America pagents in Moline. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946 in the Pacific theater.
Surviving with his wife are sons, Douglas B. Pape (wife: Joy) of Columbus, Ohio, Brad C. Pape (wife: Janet) of Lafayette; a stepdaughter, Cathy Russell of West Lafayette; and a stepson, Steven Cosler (wife: Lynne) of Winter Park, Fla.
Also surviving are ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Preceded in death by brother Louis Pape.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. until time of memorial service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel, 1184 Sagamore Parkway West.
