I am very saddened to hear about Professor Soedel's passing away recently. I had the honor of being one of his numerous PhD students at the Herrick Laboratories (1972-1976). My most sincere condolences to his family and all of his former students and associates throughout the world. May he rest in peace.

My deepest condolences to his family. My deepest regard, gratitude and respect to him. He taught me vibrations of plates and shells from his famous book. . I teach and work in that area and hence i earn my by bread by teaching what he taught me. I fondly remember, he had an immense amount of material to cover from his book on vibrations (in one semester) and so he would show a transparency full of equations and go from top to bottom in a flash. May his soul rest in peace.

I am indeed saddened by the loss. I had known Werner since August 1973 when I joined the Herrick Labs as a PhD student. I was privileged to have him as my major professor and co-author (during the Purdue days). He was a father-like figure as he informally advised me during my professional career (for 45+ years). He was highly regarded as a scholar, teacher, mentor and editor. Of more importance is the fact that he was a great human being. We will miss him but cherish the memories. Raj

Werner, what a star - kindness and support - what more could one ask from a group chair. Loved teaching with him. One semester Werner, Chuck Krousgrill and I taught ME 274 (sophomore dynamics) together, what an amazing semester, At the graduate level, his plates and shells class work is phenomenal and our go-to place for insight into this field.

So sorry for your loss. I never had the opportunity to meet Warner in person, but I was the recipient of several hand written letters from him over the years related to forestry and forest management. He was fun to interact with. Thinking of you and your family. God Bless.
