Wendall C. Summers

Wendell C. “Wendy” Summers, of Lafayette, formerly of Delphi, died Friday, June 25, 2010, at St. Anthony Health Care.
He was born Jan. 3, 1923, at Roachdale, and moved to Lafayette at the age of six months. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1942.
Mr. Summers served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945 with the 8th Air Corps. He served in the battle of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe, Ardennes and Air Offensive Europe.
He married Marjorie Conway on Aug., 1, 1946, at Chalmers, and she survives.
He was a past commander of American Legion Post 11, past commander of the American Legion 2nd District, past northern vice-commander of the American Legion Department of Indiana, and past co-membership chairman of the American Legion Department of Indiana. He was a life member of both the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a former member of Delphi Lions Club.
Mr. Summers was a plumbing and heating supply salesman, working for Biggs Pump & Supply for 23 years and retiring from Baker Specialty & Supply at Logansport in 1986. He also worked at Soller-Baker Funeral Homes from 1987 to 2009.
Surviving with his wife are his daughters, Linda L. Poland (husband: Ernest) of Crossville, Tenn., and Susan S. Sutton (husband: Ty) of Delphi.
Three grandchildren survive, Christopher Poland (wife Christine) of Broomfield, CO; Summer Sutton and Maddyson Sutton of Delphi.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. Sunday until time of service at 7 p.m. at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., the Revs Clayton Kendall and Peg Nowling officiating. Private burial at Springvale Cemetery. Preceded in death by five brothers, Raymond, William, Galen, Ralph and Charles, and one sister, Mary Goldsmith. Memorials to Camp Tecumseh.
