Virginia “Ginny” L. Fiers, 80, of West Lafayette, passed away at 9:12 PM Friday, January 27, 2017 in her residence, with her family present. She was born in Lafayette on January 26, 1937 to the late Claude Scott and Ruth Scott Howe. Ginny graduated from Stockwell High School in 1955. In November of 1960 she married John L. Fiers Jr. in the Stockwell United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death in October of 1993. She was a homemaker but enjoyed working outside the home throughout the years, most notably, in housekeeping at Purdue University. Ginny belonged to the American Legion Post 11 Auxiliary, was an avid reader and follower of Indiana sports teams, but mostly Purdue Men’s and Women’s Basketball. She was a lover of cats and had several during her lifetime.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Robert Fiers (wife Marlene) of Indianapolis, five grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9:30 until the 11:00 AM service on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 all at the Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel, 1184 Sagamore Pkwy W. West Lafayette, IN 47906. Rev. Gordon Flick will officiate the service and interment following the service at Johnson Cemetery near Stockwell. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Lung Association, 115 West Washington Street, Ste 1180-South Indianapolis, IN 46204 or the Almost Home Humane Society, 1705 S 2nd St, Lafayette, IN 47905.
