Vesta F. Ward, 79, of West Lafayette, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Central. She had lived at Indiana Veterans? Home the past nine years.
Born March 12, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Hazel Ziemer Wilhelm. She graduated from Otterbein High School.
On June 8, 1958, she married Theodore L. Ward in Boswell, and he died on March 1, 2000.
Mrs. Ward had been an operator at Bell Telephone. She enjoyed playing bingo.
Surviving are three sons, Glenn A. Ward (wife: Judy) of West Lafayette, Chris H. Ward of Fowler and Mike K. Ward (wife: Liz) of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a brother, Stanley Wilhelm of Lafayette; and three sisters, Loretta Doeden of Lafayette, and Carol Neff and Paula VanHorn (husband: Dick), both of Otterbein.
Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ivan Wilhelm.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the 10 a.m. service on Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, at Indiana Veterans? Home, the Rev. David Hess officiating. Entombment will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.

Please know that you are in the thoughts and prayers of so many of the staff, residents and volunteers of the Veterans& Home. Vesta was a sweetheart. What a wonderful lady. I always enjoyed seeing Vesta at Chapel, visiting at the beautyshop, and talking at Bible Study and Cookouts. I remember how happy and proud she was when she waved her little American flag at a parade we attended at IVH. I will miss her, but I know she is now at peace, safe in the arms of her Savior. May you have the peace and comfort of the Lord and continue in the legacy of Vesta&s love.
