Thomas P. Russell, 86
Thomas P. Russell, 86, of Lafayette, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at Clarian Arnett Hospital.
He was born July 8, 1924, in Des Moines, Iowa, and was the son of the late J. Walter and Carrie Wallace Russell.
He graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines, and attended Grinnell (Iowa) College.
On July 13, 1946, he married Dorothy Moore in Terre Haute, and she died Oct. 7, 2003.
Mr. Russell was the former vice president and general manager of Warren Paper Products and Jessup Paper Box/Tee Pee Toys for 50 years, retiring in 2002.
He served in the Army from Nov. 5, 1942, to Sept. 4, 1945 and was a member of American Legion Post 11 and 40&8. He enjoyed golf, stamp collecting and playing bridge and was a sport enthusiast.
Surviving are his sons, John David Russell, Fort Worth, Texas, and Thomas J. Russell (wife: Norma J.) of Springfield, Ohio.
Tom enjoyed spending time with his three grandchildren, Jon Russell, Laura Russell and Sam Russell.
Visitation will be 5-8 PM Tuesday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Roselawn Memorial Park, Terre Haute, the Rev. Tom Eggum, of Glendale AZ, officiating. Interment Roselawn Memorial Park. Those wishing may contribute to the American Cancer Society, 2723 South Albright Rd. I only got to be with Uncle Tom a few times because I lived on the west coast, but
he was a very powerful man and made a huge impression on me. The last time I
saw him was when he made a swing thru the Northwest. He was gracious and showed me the love he had for everyone. I have pictures of him with my granschildren. He was their great,great, great uncle. I cherish those pictures and my grandkids remember him and loved him too. He was the last of a great family of loving people. We all have to remember him with happy thoughts and continue on with the love he had for everyone. I am sorry I have never met his family, but he was very proud of his family and loved you all very much. He is someone that will live on, in his family.
