Stephen C. Wemlinger, 41, of West Lafayette, died Friday morning, Nov. 5, 2010, at his residence.
He was born March 18, 1969, in Lafayette, and was the son of the late Charles L. Wemlinger and Melody Neil Butler.
His marriage was to Melissa Mills.
Mr. Wemlinger had worked as a plumber for Purdue University the past 15 years. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and golfing.
Surviving are a son, Jalen Mills-Wemlinger and a daughter, Alexis Wemlinger, both of West Lafayette; a sister, Shannon May (husband: Ted) of Lafayette; and a brother, Kevin Wemlinger of Phoenix, Ariz.
Also surviving are his godsisters, Leslie Sharp (husband: John Huggins) and Paige Sharp, both of West Lafayette. Stephen was preceded in death by a brother, David Wemlinger.
Visitation will be 4-6:30 p.m. with memorial service at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN 47909, Pastor Ed Morrow officiating. Those wishing may contribute to the American Diabetes Association.

I am so sorry to hear of Steve&s passing. I was shocked to hear of it and it brought back memories of seeing him in the halls at WLHS. He was an awesome guy and heaven has gotten a great one.

My favorite memories of Steve:

1. Playing WCJC final in 7th grade basketball. We were down by 1 or tied with a few seconds left to play. I was on the bench. Coach Ruth looked at Steve, told him to put his head down and drive. He did and as best I can remember, we won.

2. Watching Wem literally run over and past Mississinewa at a game when we were juniors at Mississinewa. Fastest guy I ever saw in person.

Miss you Wem. You were a heck of a real guy. Not enough real guys left.

I first met Steve when I went to Mrs. Hefley&s nursery school; I was 5, he was 6. And we didn&t meet again until high school. That crazy group of friends he had made my junior and senior years better than I could have hoped. I have a drawing he made when we all had been hanging out at Don&s, or Nate&s, or Jeffer&s... some silly made up super hero. Made me laugh then as it does now.

My memories of Steve are all good. He was such a sweet person and so much FUN.
Please know he will be missed dearly.

My heart goes out to Stephen&s Family on this day. Stephen will always be remembered by me as a perpetually smiling football player for the WL high school. He really gave it his all and we won many victories because of him. Our graduating class was small and we know everyone&s name. Let it be known that every loss is felt.

We are so very sorry for your loss. It breaks our hearts to see you go through this yet once again. We know all to well the sorrow and pain of losing two loved ones before their time. Kevin and Shannon I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Steve. Steve had an impact on many lives. He always quitely was there with a smile and generous ear.
