(Shirley) Kathryn (Katie) Miller Wilson, 82, of West Lafayette, IN, passed away at 2 AM on Friday, March 9, 2018. She was surrounded by many family members and friends.
Katie was born on January 28, 1936, in Gary, IN. to Ivan Purl Miller and Mary Lucille (Harris) Miller. At just a few weeks of age she and her mother moved to Nappanee, IN, to join her father in their new home. Katie grew up in Nappanee and graduated from Nappanee High School. Upon graduation she traveled to Tucson, AZ, to attend the University of Arizona. With a degree in Education, she taught for two years in Arizona and eight years in California before returning to Indiana. Upon her return to Indiana Katie attained her Master’s Degree from Purdue University. She taught for the Tippecanoe School Corporation at Mintonye Elementary and Southwestern Middle Schools for 29 years, retiring in June 1999.
On July 13, 1996, she married Ronald J. (Ron) Wilson in Grayslake, IL, at the Country Squire, former summer home of the Sears family. Ron also taught in the Tippecanoe School Corporation for 28 years at Mayflower Mill Elementary and Southwestern Middle Schools. He retired in June 1999, along with Katie.
Katie was preceded in death by her parents, sister Marilyn Miller Richmond, brother David Miller, niece Vicky Richmond Oglesvy, nephews Dennis Richmond and Steve Miller and great-niece Rene Richmond.
She is survived by her husband, her sister Mary Lucille Molho, nieces Diane Smith and Wendy Shirer, and nephews Scott Richmond, David Richmond, Matt Richmond, JamesRichmond, Donald Richmond, David Miller, Ross Molho and Eric Molho. She is also survived by numerous great nieces and great nephews and great-great nieces and great-great nephews. Katie was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Phi Delta Kappa educational society.
Private graveside services will be held at the South Union Cemetery in Nappanee, IN, Pastor Mia Smith of Federated Church in West Lafayette officiating.
