Ruth Jean Hamm, 91, a lifelong resident of Romney, died Friday, August 26, 2016 at St. Mary Health Care. She was born November 15, 1924, in Lafayette to the late Dr. O. L. and Mildred C. Jenkins McCay. Jean graduated from Romney High School in 1943 and graduated from Home Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. On July 5, 1947 she married George Hamm in Romney and he survives. Jean was the school nurse at Mintonye and West Point Grade Schools , Southwestern Middle School and McCutcheon High School before retiring. She enjoyed antiques, fleamarkets, traveling to the 30th Infantry Army reunions, Auto Racing, school functions and spending time with friends, family and her grand cats. She was a member of the 30th Infantry Div. Aux, Romney Fire Department Aux and the former Romney Presbyterian Church and Eastern Star Chapter. Surviving along with her husband is her daughter Debbie Hamm of Lafayette and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Service will be 1:00 pm Tuesday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery. Those wishing may contribute to the Romney Fire Department in Jean’s memory.
