Russell Marshall Powell, 72, passed away on July 23, 2024, in West Lafayette, Indiana. Born on November 14, 1951, in Aiken, South Carolina, Marshall grew up in a closely-knit extended family and graduated from Richmond Academy before furthering his education at Truett-McConnell and Augusta Colleges.
Marshall began his career in Atlanta, GA and built a fulfilling career as a Marketing Director, contributing significantly to Arnett Health Plans in Lafayette, Indiana and Southern Health Services in Richmond, VA. His professional legacy is marked by a blend of professional expertise and genuine commitment to community welfare.
Having grown up in the church in his youth, Marshall currently was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, where his joy and friendliness were evident to all who knew him. His personal life was enriched by his passions for travelling with family, attending concerts with his wife, Purdue basketball, coaching basketball, watching WWE, and helping to establish the Lafayette Investment Club.
Marshall’s loving spirit is carried on by his devoted wife of 40 years, Barbara Powell (née Baxter); sons, Alex (Laura) and Brent (Ashley); and granddaughters, Bexley, Violet, and Millie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Eunice (née Stewart), and his siblings, including a sister and his brother Wyman.
Visitation will be held at 9 am with service at 11 am on August 3, 2024, at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, West Lafayette, IN. A luncheon for family and friends will follow the service.
