Rose S. Martyniak, ninety, of West Lafayette, passed away on Wednesday, June 5th at 8:20 pm. Born July 1, 1922, in Utica, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Andrew Swider and Mary Szczygiel. She lived in West Lafayette since 2003 with her daughter Maggie, coming here from Sun City, AZ. Rose married Stanley Martyniak on Christmas Day 1944, the only day 2nd Lieutenant Martyniak was granted leave due to World War II. Rose graduated from Amsterdam City Hospital in Amsterdam, New York. She served as a Registered Nurse in Indianapolis at Methodist Hospital, Community Hospital, and the U.S. Army Hospital at Fort Harrison from 1961 to 1976. She also worked at the Luke Air Force Base Hospital in Glendale, Arizona until 2003. While living in Phoenix, Arizona, Rose pursued the hobbies of leather craft and that of a silversmith. She was an avid bowler with her late husband, Stan. She was also an enthusiastic professional baseball and basketball fan. Surviving children include Maggie Samudio of West Lafayette, Elizabeth Allen-Parrish with husband Julian Parrish of Denver, CO, and son, James Martyniak of Indianapolis. Grandchildren include, Amy-Allen Godfrey (husband Kirk), Tony Allen, and Adriana Howell (husband Paul). Great-grandchildren include Bragan and Colin Howell, and Marik Godfrey. Funereal arrangements are through Soller-Baker of Lafayette. Rose will be cremated, and her ashes will be sent to Arlington National Cemetery where she will join her beloved husband, Stan.
