Roberta “Bertie” Clara Borden, born October 19, 1934, to the late Joseph and Frieda Herbst, passed peacefully through the gates of Heaven at 3:42 am on January 30, 2023.

Roberta graduated from Freeland Park High School in 1952. She married Robert LeRoy Furr on February 16, 1953, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fowler. Together they had 10 children, Robert (Lucy Romine) Furr, Arlene (Thomas) Bowyer, Helen (Michael) Probasco, Donald (Eva) Furr, Diana Salazar, June Villinski, Linda (Jerry) Fields, David (Malou) Furr, Rosemary (Richard) Serie, and Theresa Erwin.  They also owned and operated Furr’s Home Market in Fowler.  Bob passed away on November 26, 1975.  On April 24, 1979, Roberta married Dennis Borden at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in West Lafayette and he survives.

Through the years Roberta enjoyed many hobbies, including working as a 4-H Leader, knitting, reading, raising birds, collecting porcelain dolls, and spending time with her family. She and Dennis enjoyed sharing in her hobbies; most especially enjoying their beautiful birds.

Roberta is survived by her husband Dennis; children, Bob (Lucy), Arlene (Tom), son-in-law, Michael, Don (Eva), Diana, June, Linda (Jerry), David (Malou), Rosemary, and Theresa; 27 grandchildren; and 48 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Donna Cooley; and 2 brothers, Warren and Larry Herbst.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert; daughter, Helen; 2 grandsons, Lucas Furr and Stephen Salazar; brother Albert Herbst; and 3 sisters, Arlene Herbst, Leona Meeks, and Henrietta Messman.

Memorial contributions in Bertie’s name may be given to Almost Home Humane Society or Natalie’s Second Chance Shelter.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Monday, February 6, 2023, at Soller-Baker, Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN 47909.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 107 E. Main Street, Fowler, IN 47944 with Father Robert Klemme officiating.

Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Fowler.
