Robert L. Long, 81, of Lafayette, died at 12:59 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2010, at Clarian Arnett Hospital.
He was born July 7, 1928, in Lafayette, to the late Charles and Erma Wilson Long.
On June 2, 1948, he married Marian F. Hammond in Lafayette. She died April 4, 1998.
Mr. Long worked for 43 years as a PBX installer for GTE, retiring in 1989.
He attended Calvary Chapel.
Surviving are two sons Robert A. Long (wife: Geri) of Lafayette and Ronald R. Long (wife: Rhonda) of Columbus, Ind.; a brother, Stan Long (wife: Sandy) of Lafayette; and four sisters, Alice Foust and Donna Stacy (husband: James), both of Lafayette, Judy Campbell (husband: Jerry) of New Richmond and Annette Smelser of Huntington.
Also surviving are 4 grandchildren Tisha DeLeeuw, Shane, Eric and Andy Long and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Misty Long; 3 brothers, Richard, Ronald and Charlie Long; and 2 sisters, Mag and Mary Long.
Visitation will be 2 hours prior to a 3 p.m. service Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN. 47909, with Pastor Joe Bell officiating. Burial at Salem Cemetery in Odell.
