Robert Ewing Mason Jr, 68, of Lafayette, passed away at 2:45 am Thursday, June 12, 2014 at IU Arnett Hospital. Bob fought his leukemia for four years at the IU Simon Cancer center in Indianapolis, Doctors and Nurses were amazed at how strong he was and would not give up after the leukemia took over. He was born November 8, 1945, in Crawfordsville, to Lucille Goode Mason of Lafayette and the late Robert Ewing Mason Sr. Bob graduated from Southwestern High School in 1964. On November 18, 1965 he married Bonnie James in Lafayette and she survives. Robert was a member of Jackson Heights United Methodist Church. Bob retired from farming and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his dog Libby. Surviving along with his wife are a son, Robert E. Mason III (Amy) of Bloomington, daughter, Mindi Tyson (Fiancee Bill Holderfield) of Lafayette, a sister, Jean Anne Rees (Don) of Lafayette, along with four grandchildren, Tanner, Grace, William and James and a great granddaughter Caylah. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the time of the service at 2:00 pm on Monday, June 16, 2014 at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Lafayette, IN 47909 with Rev. Dr. Clayton Kendall officiating. Burial will follow at New Richmond Cemetery. In lieu of flowers those wishing may contribute to the Jackson Heights United Methodist Church or the Leukemia Society in Bob's name. We would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses at both IU Simon Cancer Center and IU Arnett Health for their support.
