Robert Dale Swaim, 84, of Lafayette, IN, died at 1:25 AM Monday, March 4, 2013 at Mulberry Health and Retirement Community. He was born June 4, 1928, in South Bend, IN, to Donald B. “Tucky” Swaim and Sarah Eupha Pyle. He served in the United States Army from July 24, 1953 to June 10, 1955. He graduated from Marshall High School, Marshall, Indiana, class of 1946. He served in the United States Army from July 24,1953 to June 10, 1955 On Jan. 18, 1988 he married Marybelle Driscoll Underwood in Lee County, FL. She survives. Dale was member of the Local Plumbers and Steam Fitters Union #157 for the past 55 years. Having been a former Midget Race Car driver, he also enjoyed NASCAR and the Indy type race cars. Surviving are wife- Marybelle Swaim- Lafayette,IN; daughter- Dawn Watson husband Steve- Mooresville,IN; son- Scott Swaim wife Cynthia- Whittier,CA; daughter- Carol Ann Mellay – Rockville,IN; son- Bruce Underwood- Port Orange,FL; daughter- Connie Van Winkle husband Allen- St. Augustine,FL; daughter- Carol Wittenmyer husband John- Crawfordsville,IN; sister- Betty Lewis husband John-Rockville,IN; grandchildren- Stuart & Grant Watson- Mooresville,IN, Anthony Rey -Califonia; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 10AM-12noon Thursday Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN 47909. Funeral service Thursday at 12noon at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel. Officiating Rev.
