Rita J. Hicks

Rita J. McKee Hicks, 60, of Dayton, died at 2:37 a.m., Saturday, July 16, 2011, at Indiana University Health Arnett.
She was born March 16, 1951, in Hot Springs, Ark., to the late J. W. and Opal Boatman McKee. She received her BA from Purdue University in Secondary English Education in 1974.
On July 18, 1971, she married Gary Hicks in Dayton they divorced in 1987.
Mrs. Hicks was the clerk/treasurer for the Town of Dayton for several years then went to work for Kirby Risk as an accountant for 12 years before retiring due to disability four years ago.
She was an elder at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Dayton, and was an avid Purdue Boilermaker and Chicago Cubs fan.
Surviving are a son Matthew Hicks (wife: Terra) of Indianapolis; a daughter Amy Hicks of Lafayette; two brothers, Don McKee of Fishers and Kenneth McKee (wife: Gail) of Little Rock, Ark.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother to four grandchildren, Bionka, Peter, Thomas and Abigail.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2011, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel with funeral service 10 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2011, at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Dayton with Rev. David Comstock officiating. Burial at Wyandotte Cemetery. Those wishing may contribute to the American Diabetes Association.

Rita married my husband and I 17 years ago and I remember her and our Dayton card club friends, spending hours watching our girls skate and our boys play ball, all very fond memories I will never forget. Where to begin... Rita was such a joy to be around and had such a zest for life. She made those around her better people. Whether we were working at Kirby Risk or hanging out playing Bunko at another co-worker&s house, Rita was always there with a joke and a smile. She was an honest and loving woman who&s smile & laughter could light up a room. She will be greatly missed. My sincerest condolences for your loss and God&s blessing to you all.

I am saddened to hear about Rita, but know that she is in a better place now with no sickness. I had the opportunity to work with this wonderful lady when I worked at Kirby Risk and she always had a smile on her face and a joke to tell. She was so much fun to be around! Never forgot how Rita was quick with a warm smile and welcoming words when I settled into Dayton. She was someone you&d always want for a neighbor. She&ll be missed.

So sorry for your lose. She was a great lady. I wish I could be there for your support. Let me know if I can do something for you. She definately had a fight with Diabetes. She doesn&t have to fight any longer.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers and I love each of you very deeply. Your Mom was my best friend and companion. SHe prayed for a companion and got stuck with me. We shared a lot and laughed a lot and grew
a lot. We had hard times we had good times and we had just goofy times.

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Rita for many, many years at Jackson-Hewitt. It was a pleasure knowing her. We had lots of good laughs. She was a very sweet lady and I know you are going to miss her. She talked about her grandchilden all the time. I hadn&t seen Rita in quite a while and didn&t know she was not well. I was shocked when I learned that Miss Rita had passed away. She was such a wonderful woman! Always making me laugh and giving me a better way to look at life! She loved to tell stories about her grandkids! I will never forget her and will miss her dearly! Rita&s family is in my thoughts and prayers through this difficult time. God bless you all.
