Richard R. Sowers, 56, of Lafayette passed away unexpectedly, Monday, May 31, 2021 at Franciscan Health East. Lafayette.

He was born May 21, 1965, in Indianapolis to the late Orval W. Sowers and Doris J. (Grimes) Sowers. He was a 1984 graduate of Harrison High School.  Upon his high school graduation, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged after 4 years of service. On August 22, 2009, he married Jacqueline “Jackie” Allison in Montmorenci, IN.

Richard was employed as a tree trimmer for Amazing Tree Service in Lafayette.  He really loved vacationing in the Great Smoky Mountains. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and watching NASCAR races, baseball, and football games. He was an avid bowler and was a huge Cincinnati Reds, Las Vegas Raiders, and Purdue Men’s basketball fan. He also loved embracing his home with beautiful flowers and working in his flower beds. But the thing he enjoyed most was spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie; his children, Matt (Heather) Hill, Junior (Ashley) Hill, Amanda Hill, Eric Hill, and Jack Hill; his mother and step-father, Doris and John Wilkinson; 3 sisters, Gloria (Dave) Powell, Pam Davis, and Laura Maxwell; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Orval W. Sowers.

Memorial donations may be addressed to his sister, Pam Davis, to assist the family with funeral costs. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am until time of service at 2:00 pm, Monday, June 7, 2021  at Soller-Baker, Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, with Pastor Donnie Ely officiating.

Interment will follow at Meadow View Cemetery, 3733 Poland Hill Rd., Lafayette, IN 47909.
