Richard E. Linson Sr., 73, of West Lafayette, IN, died at 6:12 PM Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at St. Elizabeth East Hospital. He was born January 23, 1942 in Keokuk, Iowa, to the late Opel and Bertha (Ingledue) Linson. He graduated from Carthage Community High School, Carthage, IL in 1960 and attended Carthage College in Carthage Illinois. On November 15, 1975 he married Susan Lynne Hunnicutt and she survives. He served in the United States Navy from April 1962 until July 1966. He became a licensed nursing home administrator and worked seven years for Americana Healthcare, Inc. In 1974 he purchased Comfort Retirement and Nursing Home in Lafayette and owned and operated it for 19 years. From 1993 to 1996 he worked for Tippecanoe County and operated the Tippecanoe Villa. In 1996 he joined his wife, Susan, at Road Works Manufacturing, Inc. and was the purchasing agent until he retired in 2005. He was a member of University Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. He participated in mission trips to Morocco, Turkey and to the Ysleta Lutheran Mission in El Paso, TX. Mr. Linson was active in the West Lafayette Kiwanis Club serving one term as president. After retirement he volunteered in the pharmacy and in the gift shop at St. Elizabeth East Hospital. Also surviving are his children, Richard E. Linson, Jr. of Louisville, Ky., Bertan P. Linson (Sabina) of Ramstein, Germany, Christine Linson Ernst (Warren) of Mountain House, Ca., Paul F. Smith (Robyn) of Lafayette, IN. , Aaron M. Smith (Tracey) of Tucson, AZ., grandchildren, Aaron Linson (Ashley) of Louisville, KY. David Linson of Danville, IN., Tirzah C. Linson of Louisville, KY., Christine Linson Ford (Kyle) of Lafayette, Jacob R. Linson (Hannah) of Lafayette, Brody Ernst of Mountain House, CA. Matthew R. Smith (Brittaney) of West Lafayette, Daniel E. Smith of San Francisco, CA., Angela Smith Mishler (Luke) of West Lafayette, Elizabeth P. M. Smith, Lila J. A. Smith, Joshua A. Smith of Lafayette & Heather M. Smith of Tucson, AZ. and great grandchildren, Laell, Claire, Quinn & Everett. He was preceded in death by a sister, Georgene Linson & granddaughter, Natalie Josephine Smith. Visitation will be Monday 5:00 pm-8:00 pm February 23, 2015 at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel 1184 Sagamore Parkway West, West Lafayette. Funeral Service Tuesday at 11:00 am at St. James Lutheran Church, 800 Cincinnati St. Lafayette IN 47904, followed by a graveside service at 2:30 pm at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis. Pastor Justin Herman will be officiating. The family request donations to the Ysleta Lutheran Mission, 301 S. Schultz Dr. El Paso, TX 79907.
