Remington John Shepler, 9, of Otterbein, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024, from injuries sustained in an accident. He was born on February 11, 2015, in Lafayette, to Lucy Maddox and Joshua Shepler.
Remington was a vibrant third-grader at Otterbein Elementary School. He was well known by the office staff and frequently had lunch with his principal. He brought joy to everyone around him and was beloved by the staff and his fellow classmates. He was always willing to help, stood up for his friends when needed, and played kickball in flip flops because he kicked better in them. In addition to kickball, he played baseball at Battle Ground and football at Benton Central.
Remington was passionate about swimming, road trips, and exploring new places with his family. Remy loved to build Legos, have nerf wars, and play video games with his three older brothers. Fortnite was his favorite video game, and he would play animatedly with his school friends. He was often found helping his grandmother Lisé cook, and he especially loved to make noodles with her. Remy had a special affinity for capybaras and Komodo dragons.
He was an active member of Miami Baptist Church in Logansport and Baptized by Rev. Dr. Daisok Panmei on August 6th, 2023. Remington loved running up to the Rev. Daisok smiling from ear to ear while giving him a big hug, then running off again. On his dad’s side he loved playing football, kickball, camping / scavenger hunt, river floating, bonfires and smores, carving pumpkins, building gingerbread houses, hayrides, family dinners / birthday parties, swimming, night swimming with glow sticks, easter egg hunting, fireworks while celebrating the 4th of July, and family movie nights. He enjoyed these activities with his five older brothers Uncle Billy and Aunt Melanie Shepler and his two cousins, Evelyn and Eliza Shepler. He loved grandparents’ day with Grandpa (Bill) and Grandma (Debra) Shepler.
With his quick wit and willingness to help others, Remington touched the lives of many. He was known for his playful, goofy nature and his loveable, snuggly demeanor. A testament to his compassionate soul, Remy dreamed of pursuing medicine because, “Becoming a doctor would be the best job in the world because you get to help other people.” Remington will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. Though his time with us was brief, his memory will live on in our hearts forever.
Remington is survived by his mother Lucy Maddox, brothers Vaughn (Shepler), Mason (Shepler), and Devlin (Shepler), and grandparents Mike and Lisé Maddox, all of Otterbein, as well as his father Josh Shepler and stepmom Ashley Shepler and stepbrothers Bentley (Stigers-Petrie) and John (Stigers) of Lafayette, and grandparents Bill and Debra Shepler of Logansport.
Visitation will be from 12 noon until the time of the service at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Lafayette, with Pastor Tom Robbins officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery in West Lafayette.
