Phillip J. Kappes, 90, of Lafayette, passed away on Friday, September 21, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born August 24, 1928, in Lafayette, to the late Phillip and Magdalena Nelson Kappes.
Phillip graduated from Wea High School in 1946 and served in the Army from 1950 to 1952 On December 12, 1954, he married Ruth Haynes in Lafayette and she preceded him in death on November 6, 2012.
Phillip worked at Morehouse Printing for 31 years. He and his wife Ruth owned and operated Delong Subscription Agency from 1986 to 1999. In 1995 Phil retired from Delong Subscription Agency and was instrumental in helping his son Stan start Stan’s Professional Plumbing Service where he worked until his retirement at the age of 88.
He was a member of the Lafayette Bowling Association and past Secretary. Phillip was inducted to the Lafayette Bowling Hall of Fame in 2000. He also was Secretary/Treasure for the King Bowling League for several years.
In addition, his hobbies were playing poker, euchre and cards of all kinds with friends, dominos and crossword puzzles. He was a faithful Yankee fan since birth and a loyal Boilermaker Fan.
Surviving are his children Cynthia (Michael) Keith of Brookston, Stan (Debbie) Kappes and Michael Kappes all of Lafayette, Peggy (Andy) Tvardzik of Mt Airy, MD and a plethora of grandchildren and great grandchildren who loved and adored him very much. Phil never knew a stranger and leaves behind many friends. Also leaving behind his faithful companion, Yoda. Phillip was preceded in death by a brother and 4 sisters.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Service will be at 10:00 am on Monday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel. Interment will be at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette, IN.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Wounded Warrior Project in Phillip’s memory.
