Myrle C. White, 92, of Lafayette, IN, died at 10:05 PM Sunday August 26, 2012 at Indiana University Health hospital.
She was born April 11, 1920, in Superior, WI, to the late E. Gilmore and Bertha E. (Swensen) Wagner.
On September 11, 1954 she married Dr. Norman E. White in Duluth, Minnesota and he preceded her in death in October 2010.
She received her Bachelor?s degree from Duluth State Teachers College, now University of Minnesota at Duluth, and her Masters degree in chemistry from University of Illinois at Champaign.
Myrle taught chemistry at Duluth State Teachers College and at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran church in Lafayette, IN. Myrle and Norman lived in Bloomsburg, PA for 40 years before moving to Lafayette to reside with their daughter. While in Bloomsburg, Myrle was an active member of the community. She was a Girl Scout leader, and vice president of the Penn?s Woods GS council board. She was on the board of the United Way and active as a volunteer in the Red Cross blood drives. She belonged to the Ft. McClure chapter of the DAR, and the Ivy Club. She was a former member of St. Matthew?s Lutheran church in Bloomsburg, where she taught Sunday school.
Myrle enjoyed gardening and was successful in growing beautiful roses. She also enjoyed bird watching, reading, attending the theater and symphony concerts. Myrle and Norman travelled to all 50 states, and some of Europe. Her genealogy research took them to many trips in New England and the mid-west.
Surviving is a daughter, Elizabeth White, of Lafayette, IN, and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by Father, E. Gilmore Wagner, Mother, Bertha E. Wagner, and three sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Visitation will be 1 hour prior to an 11am service on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lafayette, the Rev. Dr. David Doane, her pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
