Muriel Thomas Fearnot Dockstader, age 95, of 1750 Lindberg Road, West Lafayette, IN died May 24, 2021.
Born in Brockton, MA to the late Francis Edward and R. Beatrice Clarke Thomas, Muriel graduated from Howard High School, West Bridgewater, MA, New England Conservatory of Music with a Diploma in Piano Pedagogy, and Edinboro University with Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education. She taught music in Erie, PA public schools for 16 years.
Muriel was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed her family as well as music, ballroom dancing, home decorating, flower arranging and sewing. She was active in the leadership of numerous societies, including First Church of the Covenant (Deacon), Pioneer Church Garden Club, Audubon Society, Parent-Teachers Association, Boy Scouts, and several dance clubs (Revellers, USABDA and Club 50).
Muriel was married to Charles D. Fearnot from June 11, 1948 until his death on January 26, 1997. She was married to E. Stanley Dockstader from October 31, 1999 until his death on November 22, 2007.
She is preceded in death by her brother Gordon Thomas and sister Virginia Swanbon.
Survivors include sister Emily Goble of Moses Lake, WA; four children; daughter, Janice E. Stauffer (Ed) of Lincoln, NE, son, Neal E. Fearnot of West Lafayette, IN, son John R. Fearnot of Omaha, NE, and daughter Carol B. Fearnot of Novato, CA; two step-children; daughter, Debby Dockstader of Niles, OH and son David Dockstader of Erie, PA; 3 granddaughters, Michelle M. Metcalf (Justin) of West Lafayette, IN, Annette C. Fearnot Kligerman (Sam) of Zionsville, IN and Evonne Fearnot of Whitestown, IN; 5 great grandchildren, Kaylee and Chloe Metcalf of West Lafayette, Reid, Noelle and Autumn Kligerman of Zionsville, IN; and many nieces, nephews and their families.
Visitation will be 5-8 pm Monday June 7, 2021 at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel, 1184 Sagamore Parkway West, West Lafayette, IN, 47906. Graveside service 10:00 am Wednesday June 9, 2021 at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Erie, PA.
