Morton G. Kimmel, 80, of Shelbyville, KY, formerly of Lafayette, died Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at his residence. He was born October 18, 1934, in Lebanon, IN, to the late Maurice A. and Lena Jones Kimmel. Morton was a 1952 graduate of Ladoga High School and served in the US Army from 1956-1958. He was a 1958 graduate of Purdue University, where he earned his masters degree. While at Purdue he was a member of the State House Freternity. Morton taught at West Lafayette Junior High School and is retired. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Lafayette Kiwanis Club and the Indiana State Teachers Association. The Kimmel family has had a family reunion every year for eighty years and Morton was the President of this family association for several years. His marrage was to Sharon Goddard and she survives. Surviving alone with his wife are his daughters Leslie K. Sampson (Jeffrey) Shelbyville, KY, Stacey Kimmel-Smith (Robert) of Bethlehem, PA, grandchildren Jamie T. Cahill (Christopher) of Grapevine, TX and Paige K. Leever (David) of Lexington, KY. Also surviving is his brother William Kimmel (Carol) of MD and a sister Margaret Keene (Ken) of Lebanon, IN, many nephews and nieces and great nephews. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Friday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Funeral service will be 10 AM Saturday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel. Interment will be Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon, IN. Those wishing may contribute to the Sanctuary Fund at Christ United Methodist Church or the Activities Fund at Crescent Place Assisted Living in Shelbyville, KY in Morton's memory.
