Michael T. Godby, 60
Michael T. Godby, 60, of Lafayette, died at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at Clarian Arnett Hospital E.R.
He was born July 6, 1949, in New Albany, and was the son of the late William and Gertrude Mugg Godby. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1967 and attended Indiana State University.
On Feb. 22, 1969, he married Bonnie J. Shepherd in Lafayette.
Mr. Godby receiveed his real estate license in 1970 and owned Godby Agency.
He was a member and usher at St. Mary Cathedral; a member of Historic Centennial Neighborhood Association and Knights of Columbus; director at Wabash Center from 1998 until 2000; president of Lafayette Noon Optimist Club in 2010; he served as president of Lafayette Board of Realtors in 1987 and 2005; attended Graduate Real Estate Institute from 1979 to 1981, receiving a GRI designation; was Realtor of the Year in 1998; Indiana State Association District vice president from 1998 to 1992; and his company was named Small Business of the Month by the Chamber of Commerce in 1999.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Stacey M. Longere (husband: Stephen L.) and Lisa R. Godby-Amato, a son, William T. Godby (wife: Stephanie Pierce), and a sister, Sonja M. Wilson (husband: Roger D.), all of Lafayette.
Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, Tyler, Trevor, Ashley, Giovanni, Pierce and Jaiden. Preceded in death by a brother, Mark Godby; and a nephew, Jason Harris. You left us to soon and you will be greatly missed by all your family and friends. May God hold you in the palm of his hands.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at St. Mary Cathedral. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Cathedral, Fr. Daniel Gartland , Fr. Bob Klemme, Monsignor Fred Potthoff officiating. Interment St. Boniface Cemetery. Those wishing may contribute to the St. Mary Cathedral and Central Catholic High School. Dearest Bonnie, Stacey & all the Godby family:

I was so sad to hear about Mike, and my heart and prayers for comfort go out to all of you.

Although it has been ions since seeing or speaking to any of you, you all were like family to us. Julie and I, were just reminsing about how we babysat you Stacey... and now you are grown and married.

Bonnie; you are such a beautiful person inside and out and that is the memory I have of Mike as well, and I have never forgotten you and Mike throughout these years gone past. He was the best!

I am so very sorry to hear about the loss of your husband and father. I just saw Mr. Godby at the Christmas Eve mass and he was his usual sweet, smiling self. What a wonderful person...I know you&ll miss him terribly, but remember what a great spirit he was and how many people he touched with his kindness. I used to live in Lafayette and sang in the 9:00 choir. I&ll never forget how kind he always was to me, parishioners, and strangers alike. God bless and keep you.

What began as a business relationship when I was wanting to purchase a home during my divorce six years ago turned out to be a wonderful relationship with both Mike and Bonnie. We had a fun adventure together! My deepest sympathy goes to Bonnie, Lisa, and the entire Godby family. There are countless people in our community who will never forget Mike -- I know I won&t. I&ve known Mike many years. When I started working at the court house, and he was appointed as an appraiser, we saw more of each other through the years. We were always kidding that we went "wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy back" and the judge would look at us both and say "okayyyyyyyyy" with a very puzzled look. We never did tell them how. It was more fun. I would see Mike and Bonnie having lunch at Prestons and I always got a big hug and a great hello from them both. Mike was a man who made the world a better place. I&m so happy I had the opportunity to know him and I am deeply saddened by his passing. I pray his children and his grandchildren will keep his memory alive as they share their stories of their father and grandfather and make him proud. My heart goes out to you, Bonnie as I know you have lost the love of your life. He will always be with you in your heart and wishing you peace. Anyone could look at the two of you and see that you adored each other. Bless you Bonnie, and your family. I pray God will ease your pain and let your memories give you peace. What a tremendous loss to you and the world! I first met Michael when he was the Region VP for the Indiana Assoc of Realtors. He was "larger than life" and drew people to him like a magnet.

I have always been very fond of Mike and thoroughly enjoyed his company as so many others may attest to as well.

Mike was a consummate businessman. He loved his business and he excelled at it. You may have been laughing at whatever story he was telling but there was usually a message of sorts in there somewhere....and I won&t start on his jokes. Sometimes, I was not sure who was laughing harder....me or Mike but he did love to tell jokes....

I will miss seeing Mike at the Realtor functions and "sparring" with him....! Mike was a wonderfully, colorful individual...

To all of Mike&s Family; I was shocked when I saw that Mike passed away. I got the chance to meet Mike, every morning; when He would come into the Halleck Federal Building to pickup his mail. He always had that great big smile and a hand shake and was so friendly. Mike, would always come down to our Command Center and loved to talk about His Western hunting trips. We protected the Federal Judges and I pray that God will protect him and give him lasting peace and that He will always be with you. I will always think about Mike. I will always remember Mike&s laugh and smile. He always could bring life to a meeting. Sometime&s when I needed a lift I would call him and he would make me laugh and my day would not seem so bad.

I met Mike when he visited the store I work at. There were some shady looking people in the store and he said he would wait until they left before he left. I was very touched that he was concerned about my welfare. He introduced himself and from then on we would chat when he came in. He was a great guy and I am saddened by his passing.
