Michael Lynn Pickett, 64, of Lafayette, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with ALS.

He was born January 17, 1960, in Lafayette, to the late Archie J. Pickett and Helen (Buchanan) Pickett Moore.

Mike graduated from McCutcheon High School in 1979.

On August 15, 1981, he married Laura Heathcote in Lafayette, and she survives.

Mike worked as a truck driver for the Teamsters Local 135 and was self-employed for several years before retiring.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and his dog Lucy. He loved going on cruises, vacationing, gardening, fishing, and doing anything outdoors. He was an avid Purdue and Dallas Cowboys fan.

Surviving with his wife, Laura Pickett of Lafayette, is a daughter, Carri Penale (husband Danny) of Lafayette, two sisters, Cathy Crane (husband Joe) of Jonestown, PA, and Lisa Pickett (Companion Curt Shepard) of Veedersburg, a brother, Scott Pickett of Lafayette, and a grandson, Trey Penale (Companion Jess Vestal). A special thank you to Lisa Pickett and Dan and Nancy Penale of New York for all of your love, support, and help throughout Mike’s journey.

Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until the time of the service at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Lafayette, with Rev. Joseph Park Jr. officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mike’s name to a local humane society.
