Michael J. O’Reilly, 70, passed away June 30, 2017 at his home in West Lafayette. Mike was born Sept. 15, 1946 to Robert and Mary (Doyle) O’Reilly in Lafayette. He was a graduate of East Tipp High School (where he was on the football and golf teams), the University of Notre Dame (where he was on the rugby team) and St. John’s University School of Law. Following two years of active duty with the Army Infantry School at Fort Benning, Mike returned to Lafayette to practice law, retiring from the bar early this year.
In 1968 Mike married Jean Jacob in Rochester, IN and she survives. They raised two children, Kevin (wife Kimberly) and Mary (husband Kyle Chiang). Their grandchildren are Bridget, Brennan and Ben O’Reilly and Lucas and Sam Chiang. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother Lou Tolen O’Reilly. With his father he shared a love of fishing (on the Tippecanoe and on their annual forays to Wisconsin) and woodworking.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5 at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel, 1184 Sagamore Parkway West. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, West Lafayette, Father Andrew DeKeyser officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Matthew 25 Care and Share soup kitchen, 612 Wabash Avenue, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
