Mavis E. Harger

Mavis Harger, 85, of Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Lafayette, died Thursday, Sept., 8, 2011, in Cincinnati following a recent stroke.
She was born Aug. 17, 1926, in Veedersburg, and was the daughter of the late Everett and Kathryn Lowe Smith.
She graduated from Lapel High School in Lapel and received her registered nursing certification from Saint John&s Hospital in Anderson, practicing for over 25 years in Lafayette.
In 1951, she married Edgar Harger, and he died in 1993.
Mrs. Harger lived much of her adult life in Lafayette. She enjoyed her family, supported many charities, and was an active member of the United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her son, Michael Harger (wife: Jodi) of Loveland, Ohio; and her sister, Neaota Goodrich of Tipton.
Also surviving is a daughter-in-law, Susan Harger of Mettawa, Ill. She was adored by her grandchildren, Jonathan of Chicago, Andrew of Brookline, Mass., Kyle of Arlington, Va., Kelsey of Mettawa and Pierce of Loveland. Preceded in death by her son, Thomas and daughter, Kathyrn. She will be remembered as a loving mother, wife and friend and also for her warmth and kindness felt by all who knew her.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Service 10 a.m. Monday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, Rev. Scott Mann officiating. Internment to follow at Tippecanoe Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wabash Center.

I heard about the death of your Mother. I am so sorry and I want you to know I am thinking of you and what you and your family must be going through right now. Please accept my condolences. I can only imagine how difficult this must be for you.

I&m sorry I never had a chance to meet your mother. I have heard you speak of her on several occasions and know from those brief conversations how much she meant to you. She must have been a special person to have raised such as wonderful son as yourself. And you need no better testiment of that than the care and attention you have given her - especially in her final days.

I am sorry I won&t be able to make it to the funeral to convey my condolences in person but I am there in spirit. My thoughts are with you and your family at this sad time.
