Matthew “Matt” Tomas Klenosky passed away, peacefully but all too soon, on Thursday, October 18. Born on Christmas Eve 1993, he was the youngest son of David and Laurie (Kimble) Klenosky. Surviving are his parents, brother, Daniel (wife, Jessica) Klenosky, maternal grandparents, Audrey and Gene Kimble, uncles, aunts, cousins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Irwin and Janice Klenosky and his aunt, Holli (Klenosky) Schwartz.
Although he had several health issues, Matt always took the challenges presented in stride and with grace. He had the kindest heart and greatest compassion for others; and was an active volunteer for Special Olympics of Tippecanoe County and an officer with Best Buddies Indiana – Purdue University Chapter. Matt was a member of Troop 335 and earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 2010. He graduated from Harrison High School in 2012; earned an Associate of Science from Ivy Tech in Human Services in 2015; and was due to graduate from Purdue with a BS in Organizational Leadership and Supervision this May. Since attending Ivy Tech, he worked for Wabash Center as a direct support professional, working with residential clients.
He was an active member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church where he helped with children’s Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. He was known a “gentle giant” and as being “the most patient person in the world.” He loved children and helping others.
Matt loved to play games, especially board games; and was a frequent patron and had been a part-time employee at Merlin’s Beard in Lafayette. He also enjoyed bowling and participated in a night league through Purdue on Mondays and a Special Olympics team on Sunday afternoons.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 25, 6:30-8:30 p.m., and a memorial service on Friday, October 26 at 11 a.m., both at St. Andrew United Methodist Church in West Lafayette. Donations in Matt’s memory can be made to: Special Olympics Indiana/Tippecanoe County (PO Box 4801, Lafayette, IN 47903) or St. Andrew United Methodist Church (4703 N 50 West, West Lafayette, IN 47906).
