Matthew G. Gephart

Matthew G. Gephart, 53, formerly of Otterbein, died of natural causes Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at his residence in Lebanon.
He was born Oct. 11, 1956, in Lafayette, he was the son of the late Warren and Frances Mettee Gephart. He graduated from Benton Central High School and attended Vincennes University and St. Joseph?s College.
He formerly was married to JoAnn Wiley.
Mr. Gephart worked for CNH in Lebanon for the past three years. He formerly owned and operated Gephart Restoration.
He had attended Otterbein United Methodist Church. He enjoyed going on bass fishing trips, playing softball, golfing and volunteer coaching and was an avid sports fan
Surviving are his children, Kristen J. Cunningham (husband: Anthony) of Chesterton, Matthew Collin Gephart and Justin S. Gephart (wife: Amanda), both of Lafayette, and Lauren LeAnn Gephart of Monticello; brothers, Warren D. Gephart (wife: Lisa) of West Lafayette, Mark E. Gephart of Lafayette, David L. Burget of Arlington, Va.; a sister, Laura Lea Betz of Shelby Township, Mich.; and companion, Teresa Dobbins of Lebanon.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Funeral service 10 a.m. Thursday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery., Attica. Preceded in death by brother-in-law, Joel Betz. Those wishing may contribute to the East Tipp Summer Rec.

Matts Family, You have my deepest sympathy. I am not able to attend tonight, so I wanted to send this message to the family. Matt was a great guy. He and my brother Mike were very good friends growing up in Otterbein. I just can not put into words the pain I feel for all of you. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Dear Warren, Mark and Collin,

I was surprised to see Matt&s picture on the Journal and Courier&s website. I am so sorry to hear this. Matt worked diligently and happily with the boys at East Tipp. You wouldn&t find anybody more willing to help, always there, really cared and enjoyed working with the kids. The baseball team Collin and Kenny were on was proof of that. Please know that there are a lot of people out there that cared for Matt and admired him for his work with the kids and for being the person that he was. There was no keeping him down, always on the go and worked so hard. Matt will be missed a lot.

I worked with Matt for many years at the warehouse. He was a avid Purdue fan and we would talk when they played Notre dame . He was a hard worker and would always lend a hand if needed. I am truly sorry for your loss.

Words cannot express the shock of hearing of Matt&s death. Whenever anything happens to one of my former players it hurts, but the Gephart family was especially great in the memories I have. Mattie and Warren always were examples of what we tried to get all our athletes to be, both on and off the field. Matt will be missed but tho those of us who worked with him and knew him, he will not be forgotten. My deapest condolences to the family. Doug, Pam, Keli and Kraig Jennett

Just wanted to express my sympathy in the passing of Matt. I know it has been a long time since our days as kids in Otterbein, but wanted you to know that I remember Matt and the rest of his siblings.
I hope you can deal with your loss in the best possible manner with God&s hand on your shoulder giving you strength and comfort. It is now, more than ever, important that your family be together. Remember the good times as they no doubt out number the trying times. You will miss Matt, but he will always be with you.

My heartfelt condolences go out to all of you in this difficult time. Sure can remember the 60&s like they were yesterday with all the baseball, basketball and football games we all used to play as kids at the school and the basketball games we used to play at ""Gephart Arena"" in the back yard.
