Mary Joan “Joan” Knowles Pass, 81, of Lafayette died Sunday, January 20, 2019 at her daughter’s home with her family by her side.
She was born June 29, 1937 in West Point to the late Ralph and Mary (Collins) Ray. She was a 1955 graduate of West Point High School. She married Paul K. Knowles on December 12, 1958 at the West Point Methodist Church. Paul preceded her in death on January 29, 1989. Joan then married Harry Pass in Monon on October 6, 1996. He survives.
She was a member of Elston Presbyterian Church since 1960 and was a very active member. She worked part-time at the Bursars office for 15 years and for the Indiana Attorney General Statistician office for 15 years, 6 of those as a supervisor. Joan enjoyed dancing, camping, and playing cards. She enjoyed going to Wallace on Monday nights to listen to Gospel music and on Saturdays to listen to country. She and Paul enjoyed traveling and fishing. They traveled to the Holy land and Canada several times. She also enjoyed bowling and was the Director of LWBA for 6 years and held every league office. In 1988 she was honored with an Emeritus Award.
She is survived by her children, Paul E. Knowles of Blue Ridge, GA, Ronald G. (Lynne) Knowles of Frankfort, and Mary Jo (Mark) Mills of West Lafayette; 2 step-children, Jay (Cheryl) Pass of Frankfort, Amber Gay (Steve) Forney of Clarkston, MI; 7 grandchildren, Lyndsey (Dan) Estes of Lakewood, FL, Kyle (Megan) Knowles of Frankfort, Jessi Knowles of Chamblee, GA, Cassi (AJ) Henderson of Woodstock, GA, Joseph, Sidney, Matthew Mills of West Lafayette, 3 step-grandchildren, Erin Shaw of Clarkston, MI, Cara Forney of Waco, TX, Nathanael (Rebecca) Pass of Hephzibah, GA; 8 great-grandchildren, Braydan and Jack Estes of Lakewood, FL, Amerie, Lucas, and Grant Henderson of Woodstock, GA, Mason, Olivia, and Reid Knowles of Frankfort, 3 step-grandchildren, Isabelle and Jason Tim Shaw of Clarkston, MI, Evelyn Pass of Hephzibah; 3 sisters, Lorane (John) Eberle of Delphi, Loretta (Dave) VanSickle of Roachdale, and Carolyn (Don) Smith of Monticello.
Along with her husband, Paul she was preceded in death by her parents; and sister Delores Burk.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, AFLAC Unit at www.choa.org. Envelopes will also be available at the church.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Soller-Baker Funeral Home, Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd, Lafayette.
Funeral Service will be at 1:00 pm, Friday, January 25, 2019 at Elston Presbyterian Church, 375 Elston Road, Lafayette with Rev. Rick Ryan officiating.
