Mary E. Frier Gushwa, 66, of Lafayette, died at 11:35 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2010, at Regency Place.
She was born Nov. 17, 1943, in Lafayette to the late Harry and Marie Shoup Frier. She attended Jefferson High School and received her GED .
Her marriage was to Charles “Russ” Gushwa on Nov. 16, 1963. He preceded her in death Jan. . 6, 1998.
Mrs. Gushwa was a cook at Purdue University Harrison Hall, retiring in 1994. She previously worked at Lincoln Center as a counselor and preparing meals for Meals on Wheels.
She enjoyed crafts, woodworking, cooking, Purdue sports, the Chicago Cubs and spending time with her family.
Survivors include two daughters, Terri Clark of Galveston, Ind., and Patti Burris (husband: Kevin) of Dayton, Ohio.
Also surviving are grandchildren, Andrew Burris, Katherine Blakely (husband: Billy), Justin Clark, Kayla Clark; 2 great-grandchildren; Vicky Appleton (husband: Doug) and Mary Ann Hilt (husband: Kenneth), both of Lafayette; and a former son-in law, Mike Clark of Galveston. Preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Jo Gushwa; 12 brothers and sisters.
Visitation from 2-3 p.m. with service at 3 p.m. Sunday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, with the Rev. Joseph Park Jr. officiating. Burial will at Dayton Cemetery, Dayton. I dont know if you remember me or not, i used to work with mary at the Lafayette kitchen, & came to some of her parties. We really liked her and had a lot of fun with her & your dad. We are very to hear she passed & want to send are condolences. I know she will be truly missed. God bless you & your families.

I remember Mary, although I haven&t seen her in years. I worked with her at Lincoln Center. I have alot of wonderful memories of her.

Resting where no shadows fall,

I just wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss. I never met your mother, but I was good friends with Betty Jo when we were in Junior High at Sunnyside. I really miss your sister, and this brought back a lot of memories.

I am so sorry to hear of Mary&s passing.. Have alot of good memorie&s from when we were younger.. We use to spend alot of time with the Frier&s.. My Dad which was Shrimp was a cousin to Mary.. Very special family at that.. I am so sorry that I can&t be there for the services.. My heart goes out to her girls.. And to her loved ones as well.. You are all in my heart and prayer&s at this time and forever.. My sister&s which would be Becky and Sandy will give hugs to all for me.. Thinking of all of you and thinking of all the laugh&s that we shared with Mary.. What a great gal she was...

I am so sorry for the loss of your Mother and Grandmother. I knew her well form the 70s and she was a very sweet and loveable lady always willing to help anyone in need, and yes she did help me out a few times. Although I havent seenher in many years I know she was willing to lend a helping hand to the very end. Please know that I will pray for peace for all of you and I know she is in a place where she can now help many more people. May you Rest In Peace Mary...and I thank her from the bottom of my heart for all she done for me and my daughters and just for being a good friend when I needed one...
