Martha Ellen (Coopman) Platt, 82, of Lafayette, went to her heavenly home on March 14, 2020, at Franciscan Health St. Elizabeth East, Lafayette with her loved ones by her side.

She was born December 1, 1937 in Linden to the late Harold and Georgia (Branigan) Coopman. She was a graduate of Clarks Hill High School. Martha married her sweetheart, Glen R. Platt on May 31, 1957 at the Clark’s Hill Christian Church and would be celebrating their 63rd anniversary this year.

Martha had many careers in her lifetime but the most recent was as a cook for Clinton Prairie High School in Frankfort. She was a Purdue University fan and greatly disliked EVERYTHING Indiana University. In fact, Martha would not even go to an IU medical provider because of her loyalty to Purdue. She was an excellent cook, and everyone loved her homemade noodles.  Above all, Martha loved her family, and nothing made her happier than spending time with them.

She is survived by her husband Glen; children, Glenda (Mike) Hawthorne of Thorntown and Brent (Brandi) Platt of Clarks Hill; 3 grandchildren, Mike Hawthorne of Thorntown, Aaron (Lauren) Hawthorne of Whiteland, and Melenda (Zach) Scott of Anderson; 2 step-grandchildren, Tyler Reeder of Brookston and Samantha Hoffman of Clarks Hill; 9 great-grandchildren, Makayla, Taylor, Tatum, Joe, Jayden, Bronx, Max, Miller, and Jordyn; a brother, Ralph (Virginia) Coopman;  sister-in-law, Barbara Coopman both of Lafayette; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Beverly Brown and Shirley Robson; and a brother, Harold Coopman.

Memorial contributions in Martha’s name may be given to Clarks Hill Christian Church, 9510 Pearl St, Clarks Hill, IN 47930 or to Colfax Christian Church, 314 S Clark St, Colfax, IN 46035.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am until time of service at 12:00 pm (noon), Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Clarks Hill Christian Church, 9510 Pearl St, Clarks Hill, IN 47930 with Pastor Jeff Stedge officiating.

Interment will follow at Plainview Cemetery in Colfax.

Glenda and Brent, So sorry to hear of Martha;s passing. Please give our condolences to your Dad as well. Appreciated how your Mom and Dad opened their home to the youth group when Beth and I were leading it at CCC. I still remember shortly after accepting my position at UF we were at their house. Purdue was playing Florida in BB and all the youth wondered who I was rooting for. Said it really didn't make a difference because I had an association with both and no matter who won I couldn't lose! Martha didn't think that was the correct answer and Purdue did win!
