Marjorie J. Kochert, 85, of Lafayette, passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Creasy Springs Health Campus surround by her family. She was born November 12, 1932, in Lafayette, to the late Percy and Mary Arvidson Read.
Marjorie graduated from Wea High School in 1951. She was married for 66 years to her high school sweetheart, Robert “Bob” Kochert, and he survives. Marjorie worked as a bookeeper at Wea School, Wainwright High School and McCutcheon High School. She also was a furniture saleswomen at various furniture stores in Lafayette including Leath Furniture. Marjorie enjoyed interior design and owned and operated Interiors by MJK.
She was life long member of Elston Presbyterian Church where she had been an Elder and had taught Sunday School. She was also a member of Sigma Alpha Chi sorority. Marjorie enjoyed music and played piano and the accordion. She also enjoyed gardening, and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving along with her husband are her children Steven A. (Cathy) Kochert of Clarks Hill, Sherry L. (John) Folk of Bluffton, grandchildren Amber (Cory) Wykoff, Drew (Danny) Kochert, Ryan (Rachel) Kochert, Brittany Folk and great grandchildren Noah, Emma, Isabella Wykoff and Tessa Kochert. Marjorie was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law Linda S. and Calvin Fisher, brothers, James and Donald Read.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Service will be at 10:00 am on Monday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, Pastor Rick Ryan officiating. Interment will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Lafayette.
