Marie L. Taylor

Marie L. Taylor, 94, a life-long resident of Indiana and resident of West Lafayette since the beginning of World War 2, passed away at Greentree early on the morning of November 21, 2010.

Marie, the 4th of 6 children, was born to Sam and Bella Fisher, both deceased, in Gary, Indiana on November 4, 1916. She grew up in Fowler, Indiana. After completing high-school and a couple of years at IU, she, in the late 1930?s, worked as legal assistant to a Fowler trial lawyer and met her soon-to-be husband, E. R. “Abe” Taylor, who would complete his career with the Indiana State Police and then serve as Indiana Excise Chief during the 1960?s. Abe and Marie, who never re-married, remained married until Abe?s death in 1973.

The Second World War brought Marie, along with her sister Nettie Clary, to Greater Lafayette while their husband fought on foreign soils. After Abe?s return from the war Marie pursued both real estate sales and homemaking. Marie?s selling of houses ceased by the mid-1960?s, and Marie thereafter settled into only homemaking. Abe loved hunting, and nobody could roast quail and other game better than Marie could.

Marie, who loved children, sorrowfully had none of her own, but maintained a wonderful relationship with her two nephews, Mike Clary, who passed away earlier this year, and his brother, Brent, both of Lafayette. Marie also loved both to travel with Abe and to attend Purdue athletic events. She may have gone to IU, but when Purdue played anyone but the Hoosiers?”Go Boilers”! Marie also loved dogs with Abe?s hunting dog, “Mr. Fritz” her favorite.

Visitation will be from 2:00 PM on Tuesday, November 23, until time of service at 2:30 PM in the Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel.
